Ferrite in the heat treated structure - 1.2249

Ferrite in the heat treated structure can have two causes. On the one hand, because of a too low hardening temperature or too short holding time, ferrite of the starting conditions of the material still can be available. Possibly existing ferrite then cannot be dissolved and is still available after quenching. Another possibility can be a too long residence time outside the furnace before quenching. In this case preeutectoid ferrite precipitates himself. After quenching, ferrite amounts are then existing besides Martensit.
